The suspects, Guy Vogel and Felicia Evans, had stolen firearms from the store before fleeing the scene. Officers located them at 21st Avenue and Indian School Road and attempted to give commands. Vogel refused to comply, and a 40mm less-lethal launcher was used to try to subdue him. Vogel then fled on foot and tried to enter a truck. Police re-engaged, and Vogel reportedly pointed a gun at officers, leading to a fatal police shooting. Vogel was transported to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead.
