On 01/27/2024, deputies from the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office and officers from the Cottonport Police Department responded to reports that 36-year-old Joshua Nugent was making bomb threats and damaging property at his residence on 127 Goudeau Road in Evergreen, Louisiana.

During the encounter, deputies engaged Nugent in an altercation. Police fired shots, striking and killing Nugent. He was transported to Bunkie General Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
