OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On January 25, 2024, at approximately 11:30 p.m., Wichita Police Department officers initiated a vehicle pursuit near East Bayley and Schweiter Drive after locating a vehicle reportedly stolen at knifepoint earlier that evening. The driver, 43-year-old Larry K. Armour, drove until East Harry and Green Street, where he abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot with officers in pursuit. He then forcibly entered a residence in the 2400 block of East Harry Street, armed with a knife, and took the male occupant hostage.

A tactical team comprising Wichita Police Department officers, Sedgwick County deputies, and police negotiators arrived at the residence just before 1 a.m. At approximately 3 a.m., a deputy observed Armour through a window standing over the hostage and threatening him with a large knife, shouting that he would kill him. The deputy fired one shot, striking Armour. Armour was transported to a local hospital, where he died.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is conducting an independent investigation into the shooting. The findings will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney for review.
