The bailiff reported that the tenant, 44-year-old Sherman Lee Butler, was being aggressive. Upon entry, officers found Butler sitting on a bed, holding a box cutter to his neck. He was highly agitated and refused to leave, stating that he would only depart if officers used weapons to kill him. Despite multiple instructions to drop the box cutter, Butler remained uncooperative. Officers deployed Tasers, which failed to subdue him. Butler then advanced toward the bailiff with the box cutter, prompting the bailiff to discharge his firearm, striking Butler. Upon arrival, police attempted to make contact with the driver, identified as 50-year-old Moises Colunga Jr., who refused to exit the vehicle. Police reported that Colunga Jr. held or flashed a firearm during the interaction. In response, Officer Alvarez fired his weapon, striking Colunga Jr. He was later pronounced dead. The incident remains under investigation, and no other injuries were reported.

Buffalo PD stopped Dae’Von Roberts for speeding and having dark window tint. Police also confronted that a 6-year-old was in the front seat without a child seat. Roberts drove away from the traffic stop and Buffalo PD escalated a chase. An officer held on to the car as it was driving away and shot and killed him while driving.

During the chase, the fleeing vehicle struck and killed Raul Castaneda, a 50-year-old bystander riding a bicycle. Police reported that they had called off the pursuit moments before the fatal crash, which occurred as the vehicle continued fleeing at high speed.

On July 10, 2024, at approximately 4:06 a.m., officers from the Muskegon Police Department responded to a disturbance in the 1900 block of Howden Street. Upon arrival, they encountered a 20-year-old male exhibiting erratic behavior while armed with a knife. He then proceeded to a neighboring residence and attacked a female occupant with the knife. Officers opened fire, resulting in the individual's death at the scene. The female victim sustained multiple injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where she is expected to recover.

Mobile PD Officer Roy Adams drove across an intersection and ran a red light with allegedly blue lights on but no siren at 11 p.m. and pulled into the path of a motorcycle. The police vehicle caused Sumner Howard to crash his motorcycle, killing him. Fox10 pulled the crash report and found that a brick building to the right blocks the view of any approaching cars from the south, which means Howard likely never saw the police car. It had no sirens and Howard very likely was completely unaware of the police car that ran the red light and suddenly blocked his lane.

The intersection has a known blind spot. Police allege that he was speeding through red lights because he was on an “emergency call” but did not disclose what emergency they were chasing. The lack of sirens late at night was also not explained by MPD.

Mobile PD finally disclosed that the officer was Roy Adams Jr. This was the fourth crash he has caused in 2024 alone. Two of the crashes occurred on the same day separately. Another crash happened when he fell asleep while driving his patrol car. Another crash happened when he was seen running a stop sign. The final crash occurred on 7/9/2024 during which he killed Sumner Howard. Local media report that after all these crashes, he is still on patrol but he is no longer driving.

This is the second motorcyclist killed in Mobile in 2024 by negligent MPD officers. The first case, motorcyclist Robert Sayen who was killed by MPD while riding a motorcycle, is currently before a grand jury. The officer in the Sayen crash was Callegari.

On July 9, 2024, at approximately 8:15 p.m., deputies from the Fulton County Sheriff's Office Fugitive Apprehension Support Team (FAST) observed a vehicle committing a traffic offense on Harwell Road NW in Atlanta. The vehicle, a stolen SUV from Decatur, was driven by 18-year-old Travon Yarborough. When deputies attempted a traffic stop, Yarborough fled, leading to a high-speed pursuit. The chase concluded near the intersection of Harwell Road NW and Delmar Lane NW when Yarborough crashed into a utility pole. After the crash, Yarborough exited the vehicle and brandished a firearm at the deputies. In response, a deputy fired at least one shot, striking Yarborough. Despite his injuries, Yarborough fled on foot but was apprehended in the backyard of a nearby residence. He was transported to a local hospital and is expected to recover. A female passenger in the SUV was also taken to the hospital for observation. No deputies were injured during the incident. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is conducting an independent investigation into the shooting. The names of the involved officers have not been disclosed, and information regarding any administrative actions is currently unavailable.
