Police arrived and found Weyenberg lying in the street with severe injuries. Despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Three 17-year-old boys walked into a Big 5 sporting goods store with an airsoft gun they needed to return for a refund because it was defective. They were approached by a 51-year-old man who had profiled them and believed they had the Airsoft gun to rob the sporting goods store with and fired a shot at the boys, killing one of them. The boys had been unarmed and made no attempt to rob anyone. The surviving teens stated that they had told him multiple times that the Airsoft was not real and the man fired on them anyway. The man who shot them is allegedly a security guard who was off duty but took it upon himself to police the store’s parking lot when he arrived to pick up a family member. He is being held on $2 million for second degree murder.

On June 3, 2024, Anchorage Police Department officers responded to a "shots fired" call at the intersection of E 19th Avenue and Karluk Street. Upon arrival, they located two individuals, Tyler J. May and another man, both in possession of firearms. Officers arrested one of the men without incident. However, May did not drop his weapon when ordered to do so and continued to pose a threat, prompting officers to fire at him. May was struck by gunfire and was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Bodycam footage from the incident was released, showing the sequence of events leading up to the fatal shooting. The investigation into the shooting was conducted by the Anchorage Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit, which reviewed the bodycam footage and other evidence. The case was later transferred to the Office of Special Prosecutions for further investigation.

On June 2, 2024, Phoenix police officers responded to a call at 12th Street and Palm Lane near Coronado Park. The caller reported that Joshua Main, a 27-year-old man, was attempting to steal a motorcycle and was armed with a handgun. Upon arrival, officers confronted Main, who was sitting on the motorcycle with a gun in hand. Body-worn camera footage revealed Main raised the gun toward the officers, prompting them to fire. Main was struck and later died at a hospital. A handgun and bullet casings were recovered from the scene. The investigation is being reviewed by the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office.

On June 1, 2024, at approximately 9:00 p.m., Madison County Sheriff’s deputies, including Deputy Mason Brisendine, attempted to serve an arrest warrant on 44-year-old Lataurus Harrison in the 1600 block of Fairview Street in Indianapolis, Indiana. Harrison was located in the driver’s seat of a parked vehicle.

Harrison reportedly reached into his pocket. Deputy Brisendine opened fire, striking Harrison. A firearm was later discovered on the front passenger seat. There is no evidence to suggest that any weapons were in his pocket. Brisendine fired fatal shots for allegedly a hand motion toward Harrison’s pockets.

Harrison was pronounced dead in his car. The Indiana State Police conducted an investigation, and the Madison County Prosecutor’s Office determined the use of deadly force was justified, stating Deputy Brisendine’s actions were lawful.

On June 2, 2024, Officer Joshua Briese of the Gila River Police Department was involved in a shootout after responding to a disturbance call on the Gila River Indian Reservation in Santan, Arizona. Officer Briese, who was still in field training, tragically lost his life in the incident. Alicen Apkaw, a 23-year-old Native American woman, was a bystander and was also killed in the exchange of gunfire. The police had been engaged in an active confrontation when the shooting occurred.

On June 1, 2024, off-duty Waterloo Police Officer Keaton Northup was driving his motorcycle with 28-year-old Jenna Mills as a passenger. Investigators say Northup was intoxicated with a blood alcohol level of .292—more than three times the legal limit—and had been drinking throughout the day. He was traveling at approximately 100 mph when he lost control and crashed into a metal barrier on Interstate 380. Jenna Mills was killed in the crash. Northup was hospitalized with injuries. He was later charged with homicide by vehicle (OWI) and homicide by vehicle—reckless driving. He remains employed by the Waterloo Police Department on administrative leave.

Coleman in the 9500 block of South Vernon Avenue in Chicago's Roseland neighborhood. Coleman was wanted for a home invasion and the shooting of his ex-girlfriend and her two children in Matteson, Illinois, on May 18, 2024.

Upon approach, Coleman brandished a firearm, prompting the deployment of SWAT units and the initiation of a standoff. Negotiators engaged Coleman for nearly ten hours, during which he was observed holding a gun to his head and exhibiting erratic behavior.

Despite extensive negotiation efforts, Coleman sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound around 9:30 a.m. Officers immediately provided medical aid, and Coleman was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
