OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On January 14, 2024, Phoenix police responded to a domestic violence call at approximately 8:45 AM near 1st Avenue and Villa Maria Drive. The call reported a man, later identified as Darryle Mooney, who had confessed to killing his girlfriend and stated he would take his own life. Upon arriving at the scene, officers surrounded the home and attempted to communicate with the individuals inside via loudspeakers and cell phone, but received no response. After obtaining a search warrant, officers entered the home and discovered 70-year-old Ila Washington, who had been fatally shot. Mooney was found inside with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
