On January 4, 2024, Peoria Police’s Fugitive Apprehension Team targeted 30-year-old Junior Reyes for arrest in connection to an open warrant. Police engaged with Reyes, and a shootout ensued. Eyewitnesses reported hearing around 15 gunshots during the exchange. Reyes was shot and killed by officers during the incident. One officer was also injured, though their identity and the extent of the injury have not been disclosed. The incident is under investigation by the Peoria Police Department, with the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office overseeing the criminal review of the officers' actions.
