Aaron Nielson was fatally shot by law enforcement officers on May 29, 2024, during an attempted drug-related arrest. The operation took place near Prescott East Highway in Castle Canyon Mesa at around 3:00 PM. Officers from the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) and Prescott Police Department were executing an arrest warrant for Nielson, who had been under investigation for drug trafficking, including fentanyl. When Nielson allegedly threatened the lives of officers, a YCSO detective and a Prescott police officer responded by using lethal force. Despite efforts by emergency crews to perform life-saving measures, Nielson was declared dead at the scene. The incident is being investigated by the Arizona Department of Public Safety's Special Investigation Unit (DPS SIU).
