OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On May 18, 2024, at approximately 11:30 a.m., officers from the Surprise Police Department responded to a domestic violence situation where a woman had managed to escape a hostage situation, leaving her 6-month-old infant behind. Upon arriving at the residence near Loop 303 and Cactus Road, police officers heard multiple gunshots coming from inside the house. SWAT teams and other law enforcement agencies were deployed to negotiate with the suspect, Todd Christopher Marchetti. Upon entering the residence, officers found the infant who had been shot multiple times. The child was airlifted to a hospital and later stabilized. Tragically, the father, who had initially held the child hostage, was found dead from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound after the police made forced entry. A fire broke out at the scene during the standoff, which further delayed fire department response until it was safe to enter. The investigation is ongoing, and the police are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the fire.
