OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On May 17, 2024, at approximately 2:40 p.m., a Cobb County Police officer identified a stolen box-style truck near Mableton Parkway and Veterans Memorial Highway in Mableton, Georgia. The officer requested backup and followed the vehicle to a Chevron gas station on Old Floyd Road. As officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the driver, 40-year-old Clifford Jacolby Beck of Griffin, Georgia, rammed a civilian's car and multiple patrol vehicles in an effort to escape. Officers discharged their firearms, striking Beck. Following the shooting, the truck caught fire. Officers extricated Beck from the vehicle, and emergency medical services provided aid before transporting him to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. No officers sustained injuries during the incident. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is conducting an independent review of the officer-involved shooting.
