On 05/13/2024, deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, assigned to the Riverside Alternative Sentencing Program, conducted a probation compliance check at a home on the 3300 block of Albillo Loop in Perris. Lucas Michael Rutledge, 42, reportedly refused to engage with the deputies during the check. Deputies deployed a Taser before shooting Rutledge, claiming he produced a firearm after being tasered. According to reports, the officer fired at least 12 rounds, killing him. Body-worn camera footage shows Rutledge walking calmly away from deputies, with no visible weapon or acts of hostility, prior to the shooting. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation into this incident.
