On May 9, 2024, San Bernardino County Sheriff's deputies responded to reports of a pedestrian, identified as 32-year-old Nicholas Robert Contreras, being struck by two vehicles near Mariposa Road and Locust Avenue in Victorville. Upon arrival, deputies found Contreras armed with a knife. Despite multiple commands to drop the weapon, Contreras advanced toward the deputies, prompting them to open fire. Contreras was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is under investigation by the Sheriff's Specialized Investigations Division.
