On May 9, 2024, at approximately 1:30 PM, Chandler Police responded to a domestic disturbance call in the area of McClintock Road and Chandler Boulevard. Upon arriving, officers were directed to the backyard where 45-year-old Ruben Felix Alejandro Lopez was reportedly behaving erratically. After a 30-minute standoff, Lopez charged at officers with two large knives. In response, three officers fired at him, fatally wounding him. The investigation is ongoing, and the Chandler Police Department is working with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.
