On May 3, 2024, Jackson County Sheriff's deputies responded to a service call on County Road 143 in Skyline, Alabama. Deputies initiated a traffic stop involving Charles David Boyles. Boyles allegedly fired at the officers, and deputies shot and killed him. It is currently not known how the traffic stop escalated into a shootout.
