On May 3, 2024, law enforcement responded to a disturbance involving Connie Lee Bonner Jr. in the 1100 block of West Hope Drive. Bonner allegedly broke a window and forced his way into a home while armed with an assault rifle. After a confrontation with the resident, Bonner locked himself inside the residence and threatened to harm himself.

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team, negotiators, and drone units were deployed to the home. Bonner did not respond, and the SWAT team ultimately breached entry into the home, where they found Bonner deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. This incident was related to a domestic violence situation, as Bonner had previously been arrested in October 2023 for battery strangulation and false imprisonment involving the same victim.
