OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 02/26/2024, at approximately 6:00 p.m., Fontana Police Department officers responded to multiple 911 calls about a man behaving erratically near the intersection of Sierra and Jurupa Avenues. The individual, later identified as Marcus Allen Camacho, 36, was reportedly running in and out of traffic, posing a danger to himself and others.

Camacho entered a nearby Home Depot, located at 16783 Santa Ana Avenue, and armed himself with a carbon steel jab saw, a tool used for cutting drywall. Officers gave repeated commands for Camacho to drop the weapon, but he did not comply. A Taser was deployed but proved ineffective. Believing there was an imminent threat to safety, officers discharged their firearms, striking and killing Camacho. Emergency medical personnel arrived but were unable to save him.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the incident, and the Fontana Police Department is conducting an internal review. Camacho's family has stated that he was experiencing a mental health crisis at the time of the incident and had a history of mental health issues.
