OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 02/26/2024 at approximately 6:00 p.m., Fontana Police officers responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a man running into traffic near Sierra and Jurupa Avenues. Callers reported the man was behaving erratically and creating a traffic hazard. Officers located 36-year-old Marcus Allen Camacho, who entered the Home Depot at 16783 Santa Ana Avenue.
Police reported that Camacho picked up a carbon steel jab saw inside the store. Officers issued commands for him to drop the tool. Police deployed a Taser, which did not stop him. Officers then opened fire inside the store, striking Camacho. Paramedics responded and transported him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department conducted the independent investigation. Camacho’s family stated he was experiencing a mental health crisis and had a history of mental health issues. As of the last public update in late 2024, authorities had not released the names of the officers involved. No criminal charges against officers have been announced.
