OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 02/26/2024, deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office went to a residence in the 400 block of Montauk Drive in Festus to arrest 37-year-old Anthony Stratmann Jr. on charges related to alleged terroristic threats. Authorities stated the threats were connected to statements made online and prior interactions involving courthouse personnel.
Deputies made contact with Stratmann inside the home. According to law enforcement statements, Stratmann held a hammer during the encounter. Deputies deployed a Taser. Deputies then opened fire, striking Stratmann. He died from gunshot wounds.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol conducted the investigation into the shooting. Authorities have not publicly released the names of the deputies who fired.
