On April 26, 2024, Peoria police responded to a call regarding a man, later identified as Christian Avalos Gonzales, who allegedly flashed a gun at a neighbor. The incident occurred at approximately 1:00 p.m. when Gonzales reportedly fired a shot into the street before returning to his home. Upon arrival at his residence, officers encountered Gonzales in his driveway, armed with a handgun. Police instructed Gonzales to drop the weapon, but he reportedly pointed the gun at officers, resulting in a shootout. Gonzales was struck by gunfire and was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he later died.

The Glendale Police Department is handling the investigation, and a handgun was recovered at the scene. No officers were injured in the exchange.
