On April 25, 2024, shortly after 9 a.m., deputies from the Nassau County Sheriff's Office responded to a call for a wellness check at Green Pine Cemetery in Yulee, Florida, following reports of a man in mental health crisis who was potentially suicidal. Deputies arrived and found the man holding a pistol to his head. Police alleged that at some point, he pointed the gun at them. Deputies opened fire and killed him.
