On April 25, 2024, at approximately 9:30 a.m., deputies from the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of a man threatening people with firearms near the intersection of Hypoluxo Road and Military Trail in Lake Worth, Florida. Witnesses reported that 38-year-old Benoit Pasteur was pushing a shopping cart containing guns and a gas container and had allegedly to carjack a woman with a child in her vehicle.

Upon arrival, deputies encountered Pasteur, who allegedly pointed a rifle at them. A deputy opened fire, striking Pasteur. Pasteur was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
