OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On February 23, 2024, at approximately 11:10 a.m., officers with the Rome Police Department responded to a report of an armed robbery at the Hi-Tech convenience store located at 401 South Broad Street. Surveillance footage showed that Kelvin Gerard Jackson, 34, entered the store, threatened the clerk with a gun, and demanded money. Shortly after officers arrived at the scene, Jackson fled on foot. Police chased him on foot up McGhee Street. During the pursuit, an officer confronted Jackson and shot and killed him. It is not known what this confrontation included. Police alleged that they found a gun, but no allegations have been made that Jackson attempted to use it. He died at the scene. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has taken over the investigation.
