Lipscomb Police attempted a traffic stop on a speeding Dodge Challenger on February 16, 2024. The driver fled, and police escalated a chase. Police soon "called off the chase," but the vehicle crashed into a tree and overturned at the intersection of 6th Avenue North and 5th Street North. Unfortunately, the specific time or location when the chase was called off, as well as the exact distance between the point where the pursuit ended and the crash site, has not been released by police sources​.

Hajsun Jermale Hudson Jr., who was a passenger in the vehicle, was critically injured in the crash. He was transported to UAB Hospital, where he was later declared dead after being removed from life support.
