OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On February 17, 2024, at approximately 9:00 a.m., deputies from the Marion County Sheriff's Office responded to a domestic violence call in the 900 block of Northeast 144th Court in Silver Springs. Upon arrival, deputies located 44-year-old Jeremy Bradsher in the backyard of a residence. Bradsher fired at deputies, wounding K-9 Leo. Deputies returned fire, fatally wounding Bradsher. K-9 Leo was transported to UF Veterinary Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead due to the severity of his injuries. Police did not comment on which officer's bullet struck K-9 Leo.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) is conducting the investigation. The names of the deputies involved have not been disclosed, effectively shielding their identities.
