On April 18, 2024, at approximately 6:44 p.m., the Wayne County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of a shooting at 1131 Buffalo Road in Hortense, Georgia. Deputies arrived and established a perimeter around the residence with assistance from Jesup Police Department officers. Using a public address system, officers ordered Tracey Sanna, 69, to exit the home.

Sanna briefly attempted to leave through the back door but retreated upon seeing officers. Moments later, a gunshot was heard from inside the residence. Police entered the home and found Sanna and 69-year-old Dr. Marsha Certain, a prominent local cardiologist, both deceased from gunshot wounds. Investigators stated that Sanna fatally shot Dr. Certain before taking his own life.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation into the incident. Dr. Certain, known for her dedication to patients in Glynn and Camden counties since 1987, was a highly respected member of the community. Her death has left a deep impact on the area she served for decades.
