On October 16, 2024, Bozeman Police responded to a report of a woman, identified as 29-year-old Rick Alastor Newman, who was threatening a family member with a handgun. Newman fled the scene and continued to make threats to harm herself and others. After a two-hour search, officers located her in a parking lot at a shopping center. Police attempted to de-escalate the situation for nearly three hours. At about 1:45 a.m., Newman briefly set down her handgun but then grabbed it again, prompting officers to open fire. She was fatally shot during the encounter. The officer(s) who shot Rick Alastor Newman during the October 17, 2024 standoff in Bozeman have not been named publicly yet. However, it has been reported that four Bozeman Police officers and one member of the Gallatin County Sheriff's Office were involved in the incident.The involved officers have been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation by the Montana Division of Criminal Investigation.

On October 17, 2024, Banning police responded to a report of a man with a knife in the 300 block of South San Gorgonio Avenue. Upon making contact with Fernando Guerrero Esparza, he reportedly charged at an officer while still armed with a knife. The officer shot and killed Esparza who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Walterboro police and Colleton County deputies were sent to a disturbance Tuesday night in a parking lot off Sniders Highway near a Best Western and Ruby Tuesday. Police state that they were called because Horan was slashing car tires. Police arrived, allegedly saw him with a knife, and killed him. His family states that he was a very kind man, suffering from severe military PTSD and a TBI head injury. It is unclear whether he had mental health support. A police dog also died in the shooting. Horan reportedly only had a knife and it is believed that the dog died by police friendly fire.

The investigation into the officer-involved shooting of Joseph Horan V is being handled by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED). The Colleton County Sheriff’s Office requested this independent investigation after the fatal incident. The deputy involved has been placed on administrative leave, and their identity has not been disclosed.

Kathleen Fresard, 71, was driving north on US 127 when an Owen County deputy, Frank Blackwell, responded to an emergency with lights and sirens. The incident occurred when Deputy Frank Blackwell of the Owen County Sheriff's Office was attempting to pass slower traffic with his emergency lights and sirens on. Fresard, driving a Subaru Forester, made a left turn in front of him, causing the crash. Fresard succumbed to her injuries at the hospital, while Deputy Blackwell was treated for non-life-threatening injuries​.

On October 16, 2024, at approximately 12:48 p.m., officers from the Albion Department of Public Safety (ADPS) responded to a domestic disturbance in Albion. The 28-year-old male, who had an outstanding felony warrant for assault, fled the scene and was later located at his residence in Homer Township. Upon arrival, deputies from the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office observed the man entering his home around 1:14 p.m. He then fled into a nearby cornfield.

A drone and K-9 unit were deployed to search for the individual. A neighbor reported seeing him with a handgun, running between fields. A deputy soon spotted him near the intersection of 25 ½ Mile Road and R Drive South, where the individual appeared from behind a tree displaying the handgun. Within seconds, the individual fired a single shot, resulting in his death by suicide.

The incident involving Daniel Leslie, the unarmed man shot by Prescott police, stems from an earlier domestic violence event. On June 7, 2024, Leslie allegedly threatened his girlfriend and tried to break down a door at an RV where she was staying. When officers arrived, he was gone, but they later spotted him in his car. Despite an attempt to stop him for questioning, Leslie fled at a high rate of speed. The officers, citing dangerous driving, decided not to pursue him.

The next day, June 8, officers returned to Leslie's home to arrest him for the domestic violence incident and fleeing from law enforcement. When Leslie allegedly ignored verbal commands and moved toward his carport area, Officer Brian Sutton fired three shots at him, striking him at least once. Leslie, who was unarmed, was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Officer Sutton was fired and he was indicted for the murder of this unarmed man in aMay of 2025.

On 10/15/2024, Boise Police Department officers located Lucas Alleman, 43, at the Optimist Youth Sports Complex while attempting to arrest him in connection with an ongoing investigation. Kerrville PD chased a vehicle for undisclosed reasons and high speed until it crashed near the eye and highway 16 after police placed spike strips, causing the crash. Police engaged in a shootout with the man and shot and killed him.

Police alleged at a man caused a disturbance with a weapon in Bridge City and fired a semiautomatic rifle at several homes. It is not reported that he harmed anyone. Police escalated a chase and a motorcycle officer ran into heavy equipment on the road and broke his leg. Other officers continued to chase him onto Green Avenue when the truck stopped and the man fired several shots. Police shot and killed him. A second officer sustained a leg injury also during the second part of the confrontation.

The man was identified as Jeremy Taylor Culp, an Afghanistan combat veteran with PTSD and a traumatic brain injury. Autopsy showed he had 25 bullets in his head, torso, arms.

On October 15, 2024, Davon Durrell Dean, 39, was involved in a violent incident at Santa Monica College where he reportedly shot a coworker. The following day, Hawthorne Police Department officers located him and attempted to pull him over. Dean fled, and during the pursuit, police executed a PIT maneuver, bringing him to a stop on Aviation Boulevard in El Segundo. SWAT teams were deployed, and after a standoff, Dean died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound under police duress.

On October 11, 2024, at approximately 9:41 a.m., Arkansas State Police (ASP) troopers observed a vehicle driven by Isaiah Cross, a 50-year-old male from Blossom, Texas, traveling northbound on U.S. Highway 67 between Newport and Bradford in Jackson County. The vehicle was reportedly moving at speeds exceeding 120 miles per hour.

Troopers initiated a pursuit and successfully stopped Cross near the 80-mile marker on U.S. 67 South, leading to a standoff. The Jackson County Sheriff's Office closed a portion of the highway while ASP police negotiators ordered him to exit the vehicle.

Approximately 30 minutes later, Cross drove away, driving south in the northbound lanes at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour for about 10 miles with troopers in high-speed pursuit.During the pursuit, troopers fired at Cross when there was a gap in traffic. The vehicle subsequently ran off the roadway into a ditch and caught fire. Cross was pronounced dead at the crash site. An investigation by the ASP Criminal Investigation Division was conducted, and Third Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney Devon Holder determined that the use of deadly force by the troopers was justified.

Aaron Dusinberre was sitting on a bench at 500 block of Crown Court in Newport News. Police were called because someone felt that they saw a gun in his lap. Police arrived and engaged in a confrontation with him and alleged that he was suicidal. It is unknown how they arrived at this claim. Police shot and killed him, claiming he refused to drop his weapon. The object was an orange–tipped Airsoft gun and not a weapon. Police confirmed that it had an orange tip and it is unclear why they did not recognize it not to be a weapon by this marker.

On October 12, 2024, at approximately 7:06 a.m., 27-year-old Jonathan Macias contacted 911, stating he was armed and intended to shoot individuals near the 6900 block of Childs Street in Wichita, Kansas. Multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office, Maize Police Department, and Park City Police Department, responded to the location. Officers observed Macias wearing what appeared to be body armor.

Over the course of an hour, officers attempted to de-escalate the situation as Macias drove his vehicle erratically through the neighborhood, entering and exiting the car multiple times. Officers deployed spike strips to deflate the vehicle's tires; however, Macias continued driving. At approximately 8:15 a.m., Macias exited his vehicle, turned toward officers, and reached behind his back. Believing he was reaching for a weapon, officers discharged firearms and less-lethal bean bag rounds, striking Macias.

Phoenix Police were called to the scene of a fatal shooting near 49th Avenue and Thunderbird Road, where they discovered 45-year-old Johnny Grammatico deceased in a U-Haul vehicle.
