Frank E. Tyson crashed his vehicle, ran from the crash site, was stopped by police and a violent arrest ensued. He died during arrest. Ben Crump representing the family likened the arrest to George Floyd and Eric Garner, stating he had been face down and telling police he could not breathe and was not helped. Crump pointed out that on bodycam, Tyson can be heard telling an officer that he cannot breathe and the officer replied: "You're fine. Shut the fuck up." As he gasps for air and repeats "I can't breathe.", one officer's knee is seen on his neck while others push him down. Tyson also asks "get off my neck." Bodycam documents 8 minutes going by before CPR was given. On August 13, 2024, it was ruled that his death was a homicide. Autopsy had shown that alcohol and cocaine were in his system and that he had died of cardiac arrest. This court case likely will focus heavily on positional asphyxiation during arrest, a common cause of death during forcible arrests when a person is held face-down for prolonged periods and cannot breathe. Frank Tyson had repeatedly told police that he could not breathe but instead of repositioning him, they told him to "shut the fuck up."

On 04/19/2024, Lieutenant Battle observed 33-year-old Bryan Christopher White shooting at another man. Lieutenant Battle claims that White pointed a gun at him. Lieutenant Battle opened fire, striking White. Both White and the man White shot were transported to Sentara Albemarle Medical Center, where they both died from their injuries. A 17-year-old male was also injured. The Elizabeth City Police Department is investigating the first homicide while the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is reviewing the shooting of White.

On April 19, 2024, at approximately 12:00 a.m., Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies responded to a domestic violence call at a duplex on the 7300 block of Arleta Court. Upon arrival, six individuals, including the victim, were safely evacuated. The man locked himself inside the residence. Deputies engaged in approximately an hour of negotiations, which ceased when the man ignited a fire within the home. Deputies attempted to rescue him by breaking windows but were unsuccessful. Firefighters arrived and extracted the unconscious man, who was transported to a hospital and later pronounced dead. The domestic violence victim sustained minor injuries.

Steven Scott had warrants for his arrest. Gwinnett County Police found him at Waffle House. He fled. Police escalated a chase at high speed. During the chase, police reported that Scott fired multiple shots, striking a nearby Waffle House and the unmarked vehicle of a pursuing detective. Officers executed a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver to disable Scott’s vehicle after which he lost control near a utility pole. As officers approached the disabled vehicle, they allege Scott continued shooting. In response, police fired their weapons, fatally wounding Scott.

An intoxicated man stole a pickup and a shotgun and police escalated a standoff in a vehicle. Police attacked the man with CS gas and state he was “going in and out” and then tasered him. Police approached the vehicle and discovered he still had the shotgun but police found him to be incoherent and began physically fighting him to subdue him. The man became unresponsive and died. An autopsy was done by the Licking County coroner’s office who gave “narcotics use” as reason for his death, making no mention of any effects of taser or physical assault as contributing factors. No independent medical examination can be found.

Officers exited their vehicle with weapons drawn and issued multiple commands for Washington to remove his hands from his pockets and to drop the firearm. Washington did not comply and began to back away, repeatedly asking, "Why?" As officers continued to instruct him to drop the gun, Washington pulled a firearm from his jacket pocket. An officer then discharged their weapon, striking Washington. After falling to the ground, Washington appeared to raise the gun again, prompting the officer to fire additional rounds. Officers rendered medical aid until Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived and transported Washington to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A loaded firearm was recovered at the scene. No officers or bystanders were injured during the incident. Sterling sustained multiple blunt force injuries and was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:15 p.m.

On April 17, 2024, at approximately 9:30 p.m., the Sacramento Police Department, investigating the March 3 homicide of 34-year-old Rama Alsarraj, requested assistance from the Oakland Police Department to apprehend suspect Dominique Broadt, 32, at a residence on the 1000 block of 16th Street in Oakland. As officers secured the area, Broadt emerged from the residence holding a firearm. Officers issued commands for him to drop the weapon; however, Broadt allegedly pointed the firearm at them, prompting officers to discharge their weapons, fatally striking him. A loaded firearm was recovered at the scene. The officers involved were placed on paid administrative leave, per department policy. Investigations are ongoing by the Oakland Police Department's Homicide Section, Internal Affairs Division, and the Community Police Review Agency.

On 04/17/2024, at approximately 2:00 p.m., officers from the Pueblo Police Department responded to a disturbance involving animal cruelty at Fort's RV Park near Lake Avenue. Upon arrival, officers identified the individual involved as 61-year-old Ronald James Courtney. During the interaction, officers discovered that Courtney had an active warrant for Failure to Appear.

As officers attempted to arrest Courtney, he allegedly produced a firearm. In response, officers discharged their weapons, fatally striking Courtney. A firearm was recovered at the scene. The officers involved were placed on administrative leave, per standard protocol. The Pueblo County Coroner's Office identified Courtney and determined the cause and manner of death.

Investigators believe the men knew each other and had arrived at the gas station together. A handgun was recovered at the scene. On 04/16/2024, Round Lake Park Police responded to a domestic disturbance involving a suicidal man at a residence on Brierhill Drive. Upon arrival, officers heard a single gunshot from inside the home. The Northern Illinois Police Alarm System Emergency Services Team (NIPAS EST) was deployed. SWAT secured the perimeter and employed standard protocols, including loudspeaker communication attempts and surveillance monitoring of the residence.

After several hours of failed communication attempts, SWAT officers entered the residence around 1:15 a.m. and found the man deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The standoff began at approximately 8:40 p.m., lasting about five hours.

On 04/15/2024, deputies from the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a vehicle on Highway 56 near West Concord, Minnesota. Upon arrival, they encountered 48-year-old Adam Michael Lawrence sitting in his vehicle with a gun visible on the seat. Deputy David Myrom attempted to communicate with Lawrence, claiming that Lawrence raised the gun to his own head and fired. Lawrence was pronounced dead at the scene.

On 04/15/2024, deputies from Grundy County and Will County attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a man who had fled the scene of a domestic disturbance in Aurora, IL, where a 43-year-old woman was found with a gunshot wound. She was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. A statewide BOLO was issued providing a description of the man, 56-year-old Jeffrey Allen Emerson, and his vehicle.

At approximately 10:00 a.m., Grundy County deputies located Emerson's vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. Emerson did not cooperate, and deputies escalated a pursuit that ended in the 21000 block of Cottage Road in unincorporated Wilmington, Will County. Emerson exited his vehicle holding a firearm. Deputies from both Grundy and Will County established a perimeter and issued commands for Emerson to drop the weapon.

Emerson did not respond to the commands and allegedly pointed the firearm at his chest, firing a shot that resulted in a fatal self-inflicted gunshot wound. Emerson died from his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The incident is under investigation by the Will County Sheriff’s Office in collaboration with the Will County Coroner’s Office, with the Aurora Police Department handling the investigation related to the initial attempted homicide.
