OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 04/17/2024, at approximately 2:00 p.m., officers from the Pueblo Police Department responded to a disturbance involving animal cruelty at Fort's RV Park near Lake Avenue. Upon arrival, officers identified the individual involved as 61-year-old Ronald James Courtney. During the interaction, officers discovered that Courtney had an active warrant for Failure to Appear.

As officers attempted to arrest Courtney, he allegedly produced a firearm. In response, officers discharged their weapons, fatally striking Courtney. A firearm was recovered at the scene. The officers involved were placed on administrative leave, per standard protocol. The Pueblo County Coroner's Office identified Courtney and determined the cause and manner of death.
