OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On April 12, 2024, at approximately 1:45 p.m., Warren Police Department officers responded to a domestic violence call at a residence on Garbor Drive near Ryan Road and 11 Mile. The 911 caller reported that 18-year-old Hussein Al-Raji was assaulting family members and had not slept for four days. Officers approached the residence and observed Al-Raji emerging from the garage armed with a 9mm Glock handgun. Body camera footage shows Al-Raji taking no action to lower the weapon and pointing it at police. Officers fired 11 rounds, striking Al-Raji three times. He was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Al-Raji's family, originally from Bangladesh, stated they were unaware he possessed a gun and believed he was experiencing a mental health crisis.

The officers involved were placed on administrative leave. The incident is being investigated by the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office.
