On April 6, 2024, at approximately 5:00 a.m., LAPD West Valley Division officers observed a gray 2019 Lamborghini Huracán idling at a red light at the intersection of Sherman Way and Reseda Boulevard in Reseda. The driver, identified as 51-year-old Elliott Dugan, appeared to be asleep at the wheel. Officers initiated a traffic stop and, upon checking the vehicle's information, discovered that the Lamborghini had been reported stolen and that Dugan had multiple felony warrants. When officers asked Dugan to exit the vehicle, he refused and sped away westbound on Sherman Way, reaching speeds up to 113 mph. The pursuit ended abruptly when Dugan lost control and crashed into the center median near Vanalden Avenue. The impact split the vehicle into two main sections, ejecting Dugan several hundred feet from the crash site. Officers located him on a nearby sidewalk, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Debris from the collision damaged multiple parked vehicles along Sherman Way. The LAPD is conducting a comprehensive investigation into the incident, including a pursuit review to ensure adherence to department policies.
