On 02/05/2024, Lee County Sheriff’s Office and SWAT units were alerted to a bank robbery in progress at a Bank of America in Ft. Myers, Florida. The incident was triggered by a silent alarm system within the bank, notifying authorities of a potential armed threat.

SWAT immediately deployed high-tech equipment to assess the situation. A combination of two drones and one robotic dog, equipped with cameras and sensors, was sent into the bank to provide real-time surveillance. Police used a Lenco BearCat armored vehicle to position personnel and establish a secure perimeter outside the bank. SWAT personnel were armed with rifles.

A sniper was given orders to "neutralize" the target after observing Sterling Ramon Alavache with the knife, alleging that he threatened the hostage’s life. The sniper, identified as Lt. Paul Nader, fired a single shot, striking and killing Alavache. The hostage was recovered with an injury.

Police described the robbery as aggressive but did not substantiate any past criminal history. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement are handling the investigation.
