On April 2, 2024, in Port St. Lucie, Florida, retired Battle Creek, Michigan, police lieutenant Ray Felix, 60, abducted his estranged wife, Jamie Felix, 45, from a business in the 9000 block of South U.S. 1. Disguised and armed, Ray forced Jamie and their two sons, aged 10 and 17, into a rental car. He coerced Jamie to send a suspicious email to her coworkers, prompting them to alert authorities. Ray then compelled Jamie to drive her vehicle, with their 17-year-old son following in the rental car, to a Quality Inn in West Palm Beach. There, Ray shot Jamie multiple times in front of their children. He fled the scene and, when confronted by police at a nearby car rental facility, died by suicide. The children were found unharmed beside their deceased mother. This fatal shooting followed prior domestic violence incidents involving Ray Felix, including an October 2023 arrest for battery against Jamie.
