The trooper’s vehicle crashed into the driver’s side of a southbound 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by 42-year-old Gerald D. Rahier at the intersection of 40 East Road. The impact killed Rahier.

On August 18, 2024, at approximately 4 p.m., Bartow County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence on Wesley Mill Drive in Adairsville, Georgia. Chris Cochran, 60, had allegedly made death threats against his wife and a crisis intervention team that was present to assist. Cochran's wife and the intervention team sought refuge in a neighbor's home across the street, where deputies provided protection. Cochran, known to possess a significant number of rifles, retreated into his residence, began breaking windows, and issued further threats to kill those outside.

The Bartow County Sheriff's Office deployed its SWAT team to safely extract the deputies, Cochran's wife, and other civilians, and to apprehend Cochran. During the standoff, Cochran pointed a long gun out of a second-story window and repeatedly threatened SWAT officers, deputies, and witnesses. A SWAT officer discharged their weapon, striking Cochran, who was pronounced dead at the scene by the Bartow County Coroner's Office. No officers or civilians were injured during the incident.

Missouri State trooper reportedly came upon an accident site and saw a man crawling out of the car. Police claim that he held a knife. Police further alleged that they shouted at him to drop the knife and he did not do so. Police shot and killed him. He was 27-year-old Denis Redondo Zelaya from Honduras. Police said they do not know if he spoke English and understood their commands or not.

On August 17, 2024, at approximately 2:30 p.m., Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) attempted to stop a motorcycle driven by 34-year-old Joseph Nehemiah Powell of Orange Park, Florida, for displaying no tag on Interstate 10 in Washington County. Powell fled. Police initiating a high-speed pursuit that reached speeds up to 142 mph. The chase continued into Jackson County, where Powell exited onto State Road 71. Attempting to navigate the exit, he lost control and crashed. Powell was pronounced dead at the scene. On August 15, 2024, at approximately 10:20 p.m., the Laurens County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call reporting a domestic dispute at a residence in the 2000 block of Sudie Pearl Jones Road in Alamo, Georgia. Upon arrival, a deputy found that the man, Curtis “CJ” Glen Purvis Jr., had already left the scene. While the deputy was speaking with the victim, Purvis Jr. returned, driving his vehicle into another car and striking the victim's father. In response, the deputy fired at Purvis Jr.'s vehicle before it came to a stop.

Purvis Jr. then exited the vehicle, entered the home, and stabbed the initial victim. When he emerged from the house armed with a knife, the deputy shot him. On August 16, 2024, at approximately 11:07 a.m., Bibb County Sheriff's deputies responded to a shooting at the Fast Trip gas station located at 2682 Riverside Drive in Macon, Georgia. Upon arrival, they discovered 51-year-old Cotina Louise Fuller suffering from gunshot wounds. She died from her injuries at the scene. Investigators identified her husband, 44-year-old Wayne Anthony Fuller Jr., as a person of interest in the homicide. He was reported fleeing the scene in a gold SUV.

A statewide alert was issued, and later that day, Spalding County Sheriff's deputies spotted Fuller's vehicle. Mayfield PD, the Graves County Sheriff’s Office and SWAT attempted to arrest a man wanted for incest and child rape in Tennessee. The man had communicated to police that he planned to kill himself. Police located him in a motel and tried to arrest him. A struggle ensued and he fled back to the motel room. Police escalated a standoff and more law enforcement agencies arrived. The man finally opened the door and exited with a gun pointed at police. Police shot and killed him.

On August 15, 2024, at approximately 9:00 a.m., Palmetto Police responded to a call about 47-year-old Daniel McClelland, who was reportedly in a mental health crisis and making suicidal threats. When officers arrived at his residence on 8th Street, McClelland retreated inside and later emerged holding a rifle, which he allegedly pointed at the officers. Police fired, striking and killing McClelland. He was transported to a local trauma center, where he was later pronounced dead. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the incident.

Three children, ages 7, 5 and 16 months were abducted after a domestic violence situation on Virginia Beach by 36-year-old Dana Demetrius Plummer. Virginia State Police generated an Amber Alert and the man was found driving a vehicle with all 3 children. Police escalated a high-speed chase that ended when the vehicle crashed due to the pursuit, rolled over and the 18-month-old baby girl was ejected. She was Medevac’d to a hospital where she died. The two young boys were injured.

Virginia Beach police responded to a call about a man with a knife. Upon arrival, officers found Robert Miller and another individual struggling over the weapon. Despite commands to drop the knife, Miller charged at an officer, prompting the officer to use deadly force. Miller was transported to the hospital but later died from his injuries.

Miller, a retired NYPD officer who served from 1985 to 2005, had been a first responder during the 9/11 attacks. He had retired from the NYPD as a Highway Patrol Officer before relocating to Virginia Beach.

On August 14, 2024, a deputy from the St. Francois County Sheriff's Department attempted a traffic stop near Old Orchard Road in St. Francois County, Missouri. The driver, identified as 58-year-old Timothy J. King of Moscow Mills, Missouri, failed to yield, leading to a pursuit. During the chase, King's vehicle reportedly rammed the deputy's patrol car multiple times. In response, the deputy discharged his firearm, striking King. Officers at the scene administered first aid, and King was transported to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The Missouri State Highway Patrol's Division of Drug and Crime Control is investigating the incident, with findings to be reviewed by the St. Francois County Prosecuting Attorney's Office.

China Grove police chased a motorcycle at high speed through a red light until it collided with a bystander vehicle. Both the motorcyclist Larry Nees and bystander driver Michael Husky died. Police explained that they were chasing the motorcycle because they were in the area investigating a stolen car. It is unclear what connection police are drawing between the two events.
