OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On April 1, 2024, Calhoun Police Department officers attempted to stop a white Chevrolet Silverado they alleged was connected to a theft at a gas station in Calhoun, Georgia. The driver, a 15-year-old boy, did not stop. Police escalated the situation into a high-speed pursuit, forcing the chase east on Highway 53 to the Calhoun Bypass and southbound onto Interstate 75.

Officers pursued the vehicle at speeds exceeding 90 mph through Bartow County. Near mile marker 304, with police still in hot pursuit, the Silverado collided with a northbound Dodge Ram driven by 33-year-old Michael Stout of Ohio. The impact caused catastrophic damage to both vehicles, killing Stout instantly. The 15-year-old driver was also fatally injured.

As other vehicles attempted to avoid the wreckage, a secondary crash occurred, critically injuring one person who was airlifted to a nearby hospital.
