On 06/28/2024, Melbourne Police officers tracked John Jay Niebuhr, 40, to a hotel parking lot in Melbourne, Florida, following an incident at Orlando Airport where he allegedly attempted to board a plane without a ticket and was turned away by airline staff. Police stated they found Niebuhr sitting in his vehicle with a dog inside. According to police, they saw a gun in the vehicle, which they claim prompted them to shoot and kill Niebuhr. The dog in the vehicle was unharmed and taken into the care of animal services. Niebuhr had been a sovereign citizen.
