On 06/28/2024, deputies from the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Office escalated a high-speed pursuit involving a black 2018 Hyundai in Rancho Cucamonga. The chase began at approximately 1:50 AM when deputies attempted to stop the vehicle on suspicion of DUI. The driver fled, prompting a pursuit that lasted about six minutes and covered an estimated distance of 4 miles. The Hyundai collided with a white Mustang and then struck a pole at the intersection of 16th Street and Mountain Avenue, causing the vehicle to split into multiple pieces and catch fire.

The crash resulted in the deaths of four individuals, including 16-year-old Joel Jeremiah Silva. A 13-year-old passenger survived the crash but was hospitalized with injuries. Investigators later confirmed that the Hyundai had been reported stolen, and a loaded firearm was found on one of the deceased individuals.
