OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On June 27, 2024, at approximately 11:30 p.m., Georgia State Patrol troopers and Bulloch County Sheriff's deputies conducted a traffic stop on a black Chevrolet Camaro near the intersection of Highway 301 North and Brooks Hendrix Road in Statesboro, Georgia. The driver, identified as 53-year-old Stanley Lamar Reed of Valdosta, Georgia, exhibited erratic behavior during the stop. As officers approached, Reed accelerated the vehicle toward them, prompting officers to discharge their firearms. Reed sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were injured during the incident. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is conducting an independent investigation into the shooting. Upon completion, the case file will be submitted to the Ogeechee Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review. The identities of the involved officers have not been disclosed, and no information regarding administrative actions has been released.
