OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On March 28, 2024, at approximately 1:00 a.m., California Highway Patrol officers observed a black Kia K900 traveling southbound on Perris Boulevard in Moreno Valley without headlights and running a red light at the intersection with Sunnymead Boulevard. Officers attempted a traffic stop, but the driver failed to yield, initiating a pursuit. The vehicle reached speeds up to 90 mph, driving recklessly through various streets. While heading eastbound on the 25000 block of Gentian Avenue, the driver lost control and collided with two parked vehicles. The crash trapped three passengers inside the Kia, requiring extrication by emergency responders. All three passengers were transported to Riverside University Health System Medical Center with major injuries. One passenger, identified as 19-year-old Villalon Ramirez, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The driver, identified as 19-year-old Steven Israel Corona of Moreno Valley, was arrested on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, driving under the influence resulting in injuries, and felony evading with great bodily injury. He posted a $250,000 bond and was released from custody later that day.
