OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On March 28, 2024, Clayton County Police Department (CCPD) officers were investigating allegations of sexual assault and false imprisonment involving Robert Prince, 37, of College Park, Georgia. As officers arrived to execute a search warrant at the location where the alleged assault occurred, they observed Prince driving past in a black car. Officers followed him to a Valero gas station on Riverdale Road and attempted to detain him for questioning. Prince exited his vehicle and began firing at the officers, striking their patrol car's windshield and body. The officers took cover and returned fire, resulting in Prince's death at the scene. No officers were injured during the incident.

Further details emerged from Captain Steve Long of the CCPD, who was involved in the incident. He stated that upon stopping their vehicles, Prince fired with a modified machine gun. Long and Sergeant Casey Fausel took cover and returned fire. Prince was struck and died at the scene.
