According to New York State Police, at about 10:15 p.m. Wednesday, a Cortland County Sheriff’s Deputy observed an S-U-V running a red light in the Town of Cortlandville and tried to pull the vehicle over but the driver did not stop. The trooper escalated a chase in which both the SUV and police car crashed near the on-ramp to Interstate 81 in Homer. Rear seat passenger16-year-old Salena Wallner died at the scene. Three girls ages 15 and 16 were all taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
