The Bexar County Sheriff's Office on January 12 initiated a high-speed chase resulting in a fatal crash that happened on Military Drive West just before 1 a.m. after a traffic safety unit pulled over a vehicle driving over 60 mph in a 35 mph zone. The deputy alleges he saw drugs in plain view when he approached the passenger side which the driver said were prescription drugs. The driver also voluntarily told deputies that he had a gun. He allegedly refused to get out of the car and drove away at high speed as the traffic stop worsened. Deputies escalated a chase and the driver lost control, crashed into a pole, then a U-Haul truck and flipped his vehicle onto its side. The crash caused the driver to be ejected and he was pronounced dead. The unnamed person was at fault only for speeding and possibly possession of recreational drugs but it is unclear what the dire emergency was that prompted police to undertake this chase that endangered an entire community before killing a driver for relatively small transgressions for such a risky police approach. No officers were charged.

The vehicle continued fleeing while being chased by Monroe County Sheriff’s officers.Additionally, “stop sticks” were deployed during the chase and deflated two of the vehicle’s tires but the vehicle initially continued to flee at a high speed and in this destabilized state after being disabled at dangerous speeds with stop sticks, the vehicle was “unable to negotiate the intersection,” struck a utility pole, caught fire and then officers approached the vehicle, made a forced entry to extract the driver and a passenger. The driver was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. Lesley Rosales died. It is unknown why police chased the vehicle so aggressively. No officers were charged.

On Dec. 27, 2022 Missouri Highway patrol chased what they felt may be an intoxicated driver until the chase ended in a fiery crash at a roundabout at 72nd Street and Overland Drive in Platte County. Genie Howard had crashed his vehicle as a result of a police chase and died. Family members said the wreck happened on the driver’s birthday and family very much question the police narrative based on eyewitness stories they heard. Genie Howard had spent some time in prison and ws very proud that he had received his GED and was valedictorian. His like had gone in a positive direction.
Relatives said they were frantically trying to get in touch with Genie Howard and when they received no answer, they began calling around and found out he had crashed and been taken to a burn unit. His mother said the burns covered 70% of his body including his face.
The family said no one had notified them. The family said they only learned from hospital staff that Highway patrol had been involved in his death. It took three days for Genie Howard to die. Family remain very skeptical of the police narrative, particularly due to the lack of information they received.
