Garrett County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) Deputy Corey McElroy died in the line of duty on Dec. 21 after a three-vehicle crash. The 31-year-old deputy was driving his unmarked patrol SUV in the westbound lanes of Interstate 68 near Maryland Route 36 shortly before 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 20 when he ran into the back of a tractor-trailer.
