A clerk at the Shell gas station on the southeast corner of 159th St. and Dixie Hwy. in Harvey called 911 and complained that an “irate woman with a gun” was vandalizing the store. Harvey PD and Hazel Crest PD responded to the call and the woman got into the vehicle and proceeded to drive southbound on Dixie Highway at a high rate of speed. The Harvey police officer escalated a chase which reached a high rate of speed. The fleeing vehicle swerved to avoid another vehicle, lost control, and crashed into a sign at 170th Street, split in two and all three of the occupants were ejected. Two died at the scene and another was transported to Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn in critical condition. The third victim has also died.
