Florida Highway Patrol spotted a 2003 Lexus ES300 being driven erratically along Interstate 275 near milepost 30 and attempted a traffic stop. The driver fled at a high speed across the Howard Frankland and stopped the car at Tampa International Airport, where two adult women got out of the car. Then the driver “intentionally” reversed the car and collided with the front of a trooper patrol car and drove south and struck a Chevy Silverado nearly head-on. The truck driver sustained minor injuries. The driver of the Lexus later died at a hospital.

The Marion Police Department tried to pull Jeremy Swygart over for speeding near the 2000 block of Western Avenue. Swygart was on a motorcycle and refused to stop and police escalated a chase that ended when Swygart T-boned a marked Grant County Sheriff’s Department vehicle at the intersection of Miller Avenue and 50th Street. Swygart was ejected from the motorcycle and died at the scene.

Officer Thomas Goggins was speeding and killed a Ofelia Nunez and seriously injured her husband. The officer claimed that he was chasing a speeding vehicle.

The attorney for the family said that the officer was on his way to pick up pizza. Officer Goggins resigned and was charged with 2 misdemeanor moving violations.

Corporal Antoinette Williams saw two stolen cars driving in the area of Harry S. Truman Drive and White House Road in Upper Marlboro and turned on lights and siren in an attempt to pull them over. The cars refused to stop.
One struck an oncoming vehicle head-on whose driver later died at an area hospital.

George Desamon Jr. allegedly refused to stop for a traffic stop and police escalated a chase and the Explorer overturned and then came to rest in the parking lot of the Carencro Community Center. Desamon was in the passenger seat and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lafayette Parish Coroner’s Office. Police alleged that the vehicle had been stolen.

As troopers joined the chase, the vehicle crashed into a brick wall. The vehicle flipped multiple times until hitting a utility pole and stopping. Township police tried to stop a vehicle that had allegedly run a red light. When the vehicle did not stop, police escalated a high-speed chase which ended when Jonathan Wood crashed into a high-voltage powerline. He was airlifted out and died from injuries. A total of 6000 customers were left without power due to the chase crash which had been escalated by police because of a traffic infraction.

Police in an unmarked vehicle attempted to pull over Carlos Roberts Jr. for a traffic violation but he allegedly did not comply and fled. Officers allege that he immediately stepped from his vehicle and fired a weapon at them. He at the time may have believed he was being attacked by a civilian as the officer and vehicle were both unmarked while chasing him. A total of 43 shots were fired. Police shot and killed him. His family questions the police narrative and asked anyone who may be an eyewitness to step forward.

Jamarcus Rogers, 23, was being chased for undisclosed reasons by Mobile PD until he lost control, crashed and died. Police allege that he ran because he had an assault warrant. His mother said that her son called her during the chase, screaming ‘They’re chasing me. They’re chasing me. The police, they’re chasing me.’ Police allege that during the chase, he hit a police car. His mother questions whether the police car may have attacked him and caused the fatal crash. It is unknown whether she ever got answers.

The crash occurred only two days after pursuit laws were loosened, allowing police to chase stolen cars. Police alleged that the car they were chasing may have been stolen.

An officer allegedly conducting a routine check on the Kohler Car Wash noticed a vehicle pulling in with a license plate that looked like it had been covered with paint or dirt. When that Osseo officer pulled around to look at the car, the driver of a white pickup backed into an adjacent stall drove away. The officer claims he followed and did not chase and radio’d others. The officer claims he came upon a wreck and the man whom he had been chasing fleeing on foot. The bystander whose vehicle had been hit was killed.
