A Van Buren County sheriff’s deputy was patrolling in a rural part of the county when she saw a vehicle speeding in the early morning of Feb. 10, according to the sheriff’s office statement. The deputy tried to enforce a traffic stop in the 80000 block of County Road 681 and when the vehicle did not stom, she escalated a chase for over 3 miles at high speed that ended when the vehicle crashed into a tree and burst into flames. The driver, Jose Gonzalez-Gutierrez died.
