According to the Port Wentworth Police Department, officers were conducting speed checks on Highway 21 near Grange Road when they tried to traffic-stop a vehicle for speeding. The vehicle did not stop, made a U-turn and headed southbound on Highway 21. Police escalated a chase exceeding 100 mph. The driver allegedly tried to get off the exit, lost control of the vehicle and crashed and died as a result of the police chase crash.
