OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 10/08/2021, personnel from the Alaska State Troopers and the Fairbanks Police Department, including members of Northern and Southcentral Special Emergency Reaction Teams, arrived at a residence on Richardson Highway near Salcha, Alaska, to serve multiple outstanding warrants for Scott W. Hottinger. As officers approached, Hottinger exited the home armed with a firearm and began shouting. Troopers and local officers identified themselves as law enforcement. Hottinger then discharged a weapon toward officers. Two law enforcement officers returned fire, striking Hottinger. Hottinger was pronounced dead at the scene. The Alaska Bureau of Investigation took over the investigation, which will be reviewed by the Alaska Office of Special Prosecutions upon completion.
