Mobile PD Officer Roy Adams drove across an intersection and ran a red light with allegedly blue lights on but no siren at 11 p.m. and pulled into the path of a motorcycle. The police vehicle caused Sumner Howard to crash his motorcycle, killing him. Fox10 pulled the crash report and found that a brick building to the right blocks the view of any approaching cars from the south, which means Howard likely never saw the police car. It had no sirens and Howard very likely was completely unaware of the police car that ran the red light and suddenly blocked his lane.

The intersection has a known blind spot. Police allege that he was speeding through red lights because he was on an “emergency call” but did not disclose what emergency they were chasing. The lack of sirens late at night was also not explained by MPD.

Mobile PD finally disclosed that the officer was Roy Adams Jr. This was the fourth crash he has caused in 2024 alone. Two of the crashes occurred on the same day separately. Another crash happened when he fell asleep while driving his patrol car. Another crash happened when he was seen running a stop sign. The final crash occurred on 7/9/2024 during which he killed Sumner Howard. Local media report that after all these crashes, he is still on patrol but he is no longer driving.

Travis Dickson, 42, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after a standoff with Dothan Police on November 24, 2024. Police accused him of firing shots at a vehicle earlier and escalated a chase up to 115 mph through Dothan and rural Houston County that came to an end when his vehicle became disabled on railroad tracks. He stopped and police forced a standoff described only as "lengthy." Dickson did eventually come out of his car and according to police, he then died by suicide by shooting himself in the chest. No BWC or autopsy, no officers names provided. ALEA is handling the investigation.

On June 15, 2024, Gabriel McNutt, 15, was experiencing a mental health crisis in his home on Elles Drive in Athens, Alabama. Athens Police were called to the home at 2:15 PM. McNutt allegedly had knives and retrieved a firearm. Police alleged that the situation escalated when McNutt "threw knives" and fired a shot at officers. Police shot and killed him. His parents disclosed McNutt suffered from severe neurological and mental health issues, including epilepsy and depression. The case is under investigation by the Alabama State Bureau of Investigation (SBI).

On November 21, 2024, Andrew Joshua Harrison, 33, died in Fairhope, Alabama, due to a police chase crash initiated by Baldwin County Sheriff's deputies. A deputy allegedly observed Harrison speeding on his motorcycle near Highway 32 and County Road 55. Police alleged Harrison did not stop when signaled, prompting the deputy to escalate the chase. The speeds of the chase are unknown. During the pursuit, Harrison lost control of his motorcycle and crashed. Emergency personnel responded, but Harrison was pronounced dead at the scene. On June 11, 2024, Damion Laddal Jones, 31, of Easley, South Carolina, was killed by Opelika PD near Interstate 85 in Opelika, Alabama. Officers with the Opelika Police Department responded to a multi-vehicle crash involving an 18-wheeler and a passenger car around 2:35 PM. During their response, Jones allegedly confronted officers while armed with a knife. Police further allege that he advanced on them despite verbal commands. Police have not explained what transpired from their arrival to a crash site to cause this escalation and how they approached Jones. Police opened fire and killed Jones. His body was transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for postmortem examination. No autopsy report nor quotes from it have been made available.

On May 24, 2024, Hartselle Police Department (HPD) escalated a pursuit against a speeding driver traveling on U.S. Highway 31 near Hartselle, Alabama. The pursuit began after the driver ran a red light and continued at excessive speed. Other law enforcement agencies joined the chase, including Cullman Police Department (CPD), Cullman County Sheriff's Office (CCSO), and Alabama State Troopers who all pursued the vehicle at over 100 mph. .

The chase escalated further when the driver, losing both front tires at one point, continued fleeing at speeds and this continued across several miles and for a significant time despite the vehicle’s worsening condition. The chase ultimately ended when the fleeing vehicle collided with bystander Ellarea Dickson's car near the Town Square Shopping Center in Cullman. Dickson, 77, was killed in the crash, and another individual was critically injured. The driver of the fleeing vehicle was taken into custody after sustaining injuries and remains hospitalized.

On May 20, 2024, Baldwin County deputies responded to a false emergency call about an alleged emergency with a description of a vehicle to look for. The responding officer, Sgt. Reid White, was traveling on Kings Road when he spotted Louis Mazzola, 67, who was returning home from work. Sgt. White initiated a traffic stop, activating his lights and siren. Mazzola turned left onto Back in the Woods Way and White attempted to pass Mazzola’s vehicle on the left at high speed. White crashed into Mazzola’s vehicle, causing Mazzola to be ejected. Gravely injured, Mazzola later died from his injuries.

The incident was a result of the false 911 call and involved significant police activity by a number of participating officers, which escalated to the crash. White was placed on administrative leave while the Georgia State Patrol investigates the incident.

On May 15, 2024, Athens Police responded to a report that Maurice White allegedly threatened others with a gun and fired it. White had left the initial location when officers escalated a chase to Songbird Drive, where he reportedly fired his weapon again. Officers fired a taser at him. Police claim he pointed a gun at them. Police then shot and killed White around 7:20 PM. The State Bureau of Investigation is handling the case.

On May 10, 2024, Antonio Seales, a chaplain for the Montgomery Police Department, was struck by a vehicle involved in a high-speed chase initiated by Greenville Police following a reported theft. The fleeing driver, Ashton Ford, drove onto I-65, and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) troopers reportedly called off the chase near Hope Hull.

The chase had been discontinued only moments prior and the crash occurred just two blocks from where the chase was reportedly discontinued, near the intersection of Norman Bridge Road and East Delano Avenue in Montgomery. Seales was gravely injured in the crash and passed away on May 21, 2024, after 11 days of fighting for his life.

Antonio Seales, widely known as "Tonio," was a beloved and active figure in the Montgomery community and as the chaplain for the Montgomery Police Department. He was also a respected community leader and champion for unity, often recognized for his deep faith and dedication to service.

ALEA has not publicly questioned the wisdom of numerous police vehicles and dangerous speeds when chasing a nonviolent offender, and the fleeing motorist, Ashton Ford, was charged with Seales' death. ALEA is leading the investigation into the incident.

On 05/07/2024, a fatal vehicle collision occurred on Florence Boulevard in Florence, Alabama, involving 57-year-old Dawn Buchanan and Lauderdale County Sheriff's Deputy David Terry. On May 3, 2024, Jackson County Sheriff's deputies responded to a service call on County Road 143 in Skyline, Alabama. Deputies initiated a traffic stop involving Charles David Boyles. On May 3, 2024, law enforcement responded to a disturbance involving Connie Lee Bonner Jr. in the 1100 block of West Hope Drive. Bonner allegedly broke a window and forced his way into a home while armed with an assault rifle. After a confrontation with the resident, Bonner locked himself inside the residence and threatened to harm himself.

Bonner did not respond, and the SWAT team ultimately breached entry into the home, where they found Bonner deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
