Morgan County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to reports of a shooting at a home on Robin Private Drive in Somerville and police located one male with gunshot wounds who was pronounced dead on the scene.
A vehicle matching the description from the shooting was located and failed to stop and fled.
Numerous law enforcement vehicles from Cullman County, Arab and Marshall County were able to stop the vehicle. The driver committed suicide under police distress.

The Albertville Police Department and Marshall County Sheriff’s Office were called to a domestic violence call. An armed man allegedly came out of his home with a gun. Police shot and killed him.

Mobile County Sheriff’s Office and US Marshals were looking for Kenneth Lee Sykes with an arrest warrant with the intention of arresting him for drug use while on probation for past drug issues. He was apparently afraid to come out of a trailer and police forced him out by firing gas canisters. He tried to flee and police claim that he walked towards them and had a knife. They shot and killed him. He reportedly was mentally ill. Claims by police cannot be verified as US Marshals virtually never provide bodycam video or other evidence.

Both the Ozark Police Department and the Dale County Police Department took up chase of a man who had allegedly been seen chasing a person in another car. Shots had been fired. Police entered this chase and tried to traffic-stop the vehicle. Police attacked the car with a PIT maneuver, and shot and killed the man. It is unknown whether he had ever represented a threat to police, or why the PIT maneuver and shooting occurred.

Oxford PD saw someone steal a car at gunpoint. The man fled and a high-speed vehicle chase was escalated by police. Police alleged that the man fired several shots. When the vehicle came to an intersection, police shot and killed the driver, Alexander Kade Lanier.

A neighbor who did not recognize Bradley Ellison as homeowner had called police, reporting a “suspicious person.”

Police chief Rick Williams and officer John Wall arrived at the address and allege that Ellison shot at them and officers returned fire, killing him.

Of note, the events took place in his backyard of a home he had owned for 17 years. He was reportedly sitting under a tree with a gun. Neighbors report that different caliber guns were heard going off including rifles, that police with rifles were running across the yard and Ellison was killed in his backyard. There is no indication whether police investigated or approached him before opening fire.

Police chief Rick Williams was briefly checked in overnight at the local hospital for unspecified injuries and promptly released. He did not elaborate further what had gone wrong and why he personally had taken the “suspicious person” call and been one of the shooters. Of note, Bradley Ellison had prior encounters with the same small PD.

Baldwin County deputies were on foot patrol at 1:30 a.m. and saw a "suspicious person" walking on the road. When deputies approached him, he allegedly produced a gun and fired at deputies. Courtney Spraggins was visiting her boyfriend, Huntsville PD officer David McCoy when he shot and killed her in his apartment parking lot. She had been pregnant with his baby. On July 15, 2021, 32-year-old Donald C. Williamson of Wetumpka was killed during a police pursuit initiated by the Wetumpka Police Department. Officers pursued Williamson, a person of interest, who was driving a 1989 Chevy Blazer. On Alabama Highway 143, approximately two miles south of Millbrook, Williamson left the roadway, re-entered, and crashed into a 2020 International MV607 commercial truck. He and passenger Katie S. Foshee, 39, of Montgomery, were transported to Baptist Medical Center South, where they both died from their injuries. The commercial truck driver was uninjured. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is investigating.

On 05/18/2021, a vehicle pursuit involving the Blount County Sheriff’s Office, Adamsville Police Department, and Hayden Police Department ended at Exit 284 off Interstate 65 in Blount County, Alabama. The man, identified as 32-year-old Timothy James Hogland of Adamsville, exited his vehicle and attempted to carjack a motorist at gunpoint. He then fired at law enforcement officers, who returned fire and fatally wounded him at the scene. According to officials, he was also wanted for a homicide from May 13, 2021.

On 04/26/2021, Birmingham Police Department officers attempted to stop a vehicle in connection with a reported theft. Officers escalated a chase after the driver refused to stop. The pursuit continued through Birmingham, where the driver lost control and crashed. He was pronounced dead at the crash site.

On 03/25/2021, around 11:45 a.m., Prattville police attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Highway 82. The driver did not stop, and officers escalated a pursuit that continued between Doster Road Cutoff and Washington Ferry. The driver lost control and crashed. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is investigating. The driver died from the crash, but no further identifying details have been released.

On 03/24/2021, deputies from the Russell County Sheriff’s Office attempted a traffic stop on Highway 431. The driver did not stop and fled at high speed northbound into Phenix City. Police escalated a chase. At the intersection of Highway 431 and Seale Road, the vehicle lost control, crossed the median, and struck a power pole. The crash killed 17-year-old Savannah Chandler of Forest Park, Georgia, who was a passenger. Campbell survived, was arrested, and charged with murder and felony attempting to elude. He had outstanding warrants in Georgia at the time.

On 03/21/2021, deputies from the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office and officers from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency pursued a vehicle driven by 41-year-old Gerald Wayne Marlin Jr. of Lake View. The chase began on Highway 231 in Ashville and continued through Pell City before ending near the intersection of Highway 174 and Highway 411 in Odenville. Law enforcement deployed spike strips, bringing the vehicle to a stop. According to authorities, Marlin fired a gun at officers, and police opened fire, killing him at the scene.

On February 27, 2021, Dora police responded to a location on High Street in Walker County. During the encounter, two officers were injured and taken to a local hospital. Police opened fire on Roger Dale Gibson, 27, who was also transported to a hospital and pronounced dead. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency assumed the investigation and will submit its findings to the Walker County District Attorney. No officer names were released.

On January 10, 2021, Chickasaw Police Officer Joseph Hand pursued a vehicle that crashed near Interstate 65 and Craft Highway in Chickasaw, killing 18-year-old Kenya Reed, a McIntosh High School senior, who was a passenger in the car. Reed’s family filed a wrongful death lawsuit, stating that Officer Hand’s conduct was part of “multiple cases” of reckless driving and pursuit behavior. Hand was later indicted for criminally negligent homicide in connection with Reed’s death. In a separate 2024 incident, while working for the Semmes Police Department, Hand was again accused of causing another catastrophic crash that left a passenger paralyzed.
