OOn 12/25/2024, officers responded to a report from David J. Malito at the Shell gas station, 401 S. Larkin Avenue, Joliet, Illinois. Believing he might be under the influence of an unknown substance, officers attempted to detain him. An altercation ensued, and he fell to the ground and was handcuffed. He lost consciousness. Officers administered Narcan. He was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

On December 18, 2024, Berwyn Police Department officers responded to reports of an armed man in the 1800 block of Home Avenue in Berwyn, Illinois. The man, identified as 24-year-old John R. Lyons, was believed to be involved in a triple homicide earlier that day in Mahomet, Illinois.

Chicago PD officers with the Priority Response Team tasked with pursuing robberies were on patrol at about 1:58 a.m. when they saw two people in a black Lexus and for unknown reasons believed they were armed and escalated a chase at high speeds that ended when the vehicle crashed and ejected a passenger who died.

Bystanders report that the car had crashed into an abandoned building that partially collapsed and crushed the car. Blood was reportedly seen nearby. The building was demolished the next day. Nearly 2 weeks after the crash, Chicago PD has not acknowledged the building collapse nor identified the deceased person or substantiated what they were accused of causing the fatal pursuit.

Plano PD were sent to a home in the 3800 block of Pratt Street for a “shots fired” call. Police found Russell Novak, 70, dead from multiple gunshot wounds. His son Nicolas Novak had fled the residence. Police located him and escalated a chase from Plano to Aurora including with helicopters. Police allege that Nicholas Novak stopped the vehicle, got out and pointed a gun at a deputy. A deputy and a Plano officer shot and killed him.

On May 16, 2024, at approximately 12:39 a.m., Woodstock Police responded to a domestic incident in the 200 block of Douglas Street near Calhoun Street in Woodstock, Illinois. Upon arrival, officers learned that 25-year-old Fabian Velazquez had discharged a firearm inside the residence before fleeing the scene in a vehicle. Officers spotted Velazquez's vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, but he disregarded commands and accelerated southbound on Route 47 at a high rate of speed. Near the intersection of Route 47 and Route 176 in Lakewood, Velazquez lost control of his vehicle, which veered off the road, went airborne, and crashed onto Swanson Road.
