On 03/23/2022, Evansville Police Department officers responded to a disturbance near Henning Avenue and Ridgeway Avenue in Evansville. Officers encountered Walter Lee Baker Jr during the call. Police stated he was armed during the encounter. Officers opened fire and shot him. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Indiana State Police opened an investigation into the shooting.

Kokomo officers were called to the Dollar General in the 1200 block of North Washington Street after a car had crashed into the building. Brian "Scotty" Doddleft the store and stopped in 400 block of West Jefferson Street, was agitated, yelled, made unspecified verbal threats and drove off again. He crashed into 2 parked cars nearby and was found unconscious in the car and later died. Autopsy showed that he died of blunt force trauma to the chest, a result of the police chase crash.

Dunkirk PD arrived in the 200 block of Mt. Auburn Street in Dunkirk after being called that the residents were under attack in their home. Police arrived, found the doors locked and were advised that someone with 2 knives was inside. When police entered, they found Kevin Zimmerman with 2 knives and shot and killed him.

On February 27, 2022, 65-year-old Vickie Berry was driving along State Road 67 in Mooresville, Indiana, when her life was violently cut short by a high-speed police chase. The impact caused Berry’s car to burst into flames, leaving her no chance of survival. Another individual, Jason Howard, also suffered fatal injuries in the crash.

The pursuit was initiated by the Mooresville Police Department, which continued chasing the vehicle at dangerous speeds through town. The high-speed pursuit ended in catastrophe when Berry's car was struck, resulting in her immediate death at the scene. In the aftermath, Berry’s family filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the Town of Mooresville, challenging the police department’s decision to engage in a high-speed chase that put innocent lives at risk.

On February 27, 2022, Jason Howard was driving down State Road 67 in Mooresville, Indiana, when his life came to a tragic end due to a high-speed police chase. Marion PD attempted a traffic stop at Indiana 18 and Bethlehem Road over a traffic violation. A vehicle did not stop and police escalated a chase. Police chased him into mobile home park and saw that passenger was in the vehicle with the man. The man went into a home and locked himself in. Police called the Marion Emergency Response Team and breached the home and escalated a confrontation. The man allegedly had a semi-automatic long rifle. Police claim that he opened fire. Swamp was called. They breached the home and found him dead. It is not known at this time whether he died by police bullet or self-inflicted gunshot.

Carroll County deputy Noah Rainey and civilian sheriff's employee Dane Northcutt were driving to a backup call on Route 26 when for unknown reasons, the patrol car left the road and hit a utility pole, killing both the deputy and Dane Gregory Northcutt. No other vehicles were involved. It is unknown how fast the officer was driving.

According to the LaGrange Police Department, at about 3 p.m. Friday in LaGrange one of its officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by a man wanted for an unnamed offense. The person took off and police chased the man east of LaGrange on U.S. 20. East of the intersection of U.S. 20 and S.R. 3, the vehicle crashed, overturned and Daniel T. Olson was ejected from the vehicle and was later pronounced dead.

Police allege that another car was speeding and weaving in between lanes when he lost control, hit a semi, spun across all lanes and collided with another tractor trailer around 11:32 a.m. in the westbound lanes near mile marker 5.7. The impact of the crash ejected a 20-year-old woman who was riding in the front passenger seat and she and an infant in a car seat were both pronounced dead on the scene. She had been thrown more than 100 feet and her head was found elsewhere on the freeway. Lake County sheriff's deputies state the reason for the chase was that they had tried to stop the car for speeding in downtown Gary.

On 01/01/2022, Allen County Sheriff’s Department deputies went to the 10000 block of Hickory Tree Road in Fort Wayne. Deputies encountered 34-year-old Blake Stephen Parton at the residence. Deputies reported that Parton fired a gun during the incident. Authorities later determined that Parton died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound during the encounter. On December 15, 2021, at approximately 5:30 a.m., Elkhart Police Department officers responded to a report of a man attempting to break a liquor store window using a bicycle near the intersection of West Hively and Benham Avenues in Elkhart, Indiana. Upon arrival, officers encountered 20-year-old Jahad Patterson in a nearby parking lot.
When officers identified themselves and ordered Patterson to show his hands, he allegedly drew a firearm and began raising it toward Officer Scott Swanson. In response, Officer Swanson and Sergeant Benjimin Martin discharged their weapons, fatally striking Patterson.

A .380 caliber handgun was recovered from Patterson, with his finger still inside the trigger guard. The Elkhart County Prosecutor's Office later determined that the officers' use of deadly force was justified, citing self-defense.

On December 11, 2021, at approximately 3:15 a.m., Kokomo Police attempted to stop a 2016 Nissan in the area of Mulberry and Washington Streets. The vehicle did not stop, and officers initiated a pursuit. After losing sight of the vehicle, officers terminated the chase. Shortly thereafter, police were dispatched to a crash at North Berkley Road and West Jefferson Street. The Nissan had collided with a Dodge Ram while heading westbound. Sydney Leigh Glenn, a 24-year-old passenger in the Nissan, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and another passenger were injured, as was the driver of the Dodge Ram.

On November 30, 2021, at approximately 11:30 p.m., police responded to the fatal shooting of Ivan Wade Flowers at his home on South Kennard Road in Kennard, Indiana. Officers later located 34-year-old Benjamin Petry, who was identified in connection with the incident, at a Speedway gas station at 1877 North Main Street in Rushville.

On November 28, 2021, at approximately 2:04 p.m., the BP Express gas station in Culver, Indiana, reported an intoxicated individual attempting to purchase alcohol. The individual, later identified as 33-year-old Dylan Wade Bush, departed the scene in a white Chevrolet Cavalier before officers arrived.

A Culver Police Department officer located Bush's vehicle near State Road 17 and Washington Street around 2:07 p.m. and initiated a pursuit when Bush failed to stop. The chase, involving high speeds exceeding 100 mph, continued through Marshall County for approximately 13.5 miles.

Sergeant Matthew Brown of the Marshall County Sheriff's Department joined the pursuit near State Road 10 and Sycamore Road. The pursuit concluded when officers boxed in Bush's vehicle at the First National Bank of Monterey's parking lot on North Lake Shore Drive. Sergeant Brown positioned his patrol car in front of Bush's vehicle and exited to issue commands. Bush ignored the commands and accelerated, pinning Sergeant Brown between the vehicles. In response, Sergeant Brown fired three shots from his service weapon, striking Bush.

After being shot, Bush's vehicle traveled several hundred feet before colliding with an unoccupied pickup truck in a nearby parking lot. Officers administered first aid until paramedics arrived, but Bush was pronounced dead at the scene by the Marshall County Coroner.

An autopsy revealed Bush had a blood alcohol content of .23%, nearly three times the legal limit, and the presence of cannabinoids and methanol in his system. The Marshall County Prosecutor's Office determined Sergeant Brown's use of deadly force was justified.

On 11/03/2021, John Kennedy Fitzgerald Bolden was driving a stolen vehicle on I-94 when law enforcement attempted a traffic stop and initiated a chase; the pursuit continued into Lake County where the fleeing vehicle struck a Porter County Sheriff’s cruiser, then the median wall and rolled over, ejecting Bolden, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

At approximately 4 a.m. on October 29, 2021, dispatchers received a 911 call reporting individuals in a Jeep SUV threatening to shoot the caller. On October 19, 2021, Indiana State Troopers and Evansville Police responded to a residence at 1801 Stinson Avenue following a report of a woman discovering a man’s body inside the home. Upon arrival, officers found 36-year-old Heidi Carter standing outside near a vehicle. Carter informed officers there were additional individuals inside the home and stated that she was armed.

Police took Carter into custody and surrounded the residence, ordering all occupants to exit. Carey Hammond, 46, reportedly rushed out of the home holding what appeared to be a firearm. Officers opened fire, shooting and killing Hammond.
Inside the residence, police discovered a tied-up woman with visible injuries and the body of another deceased man. Investigators have not disclosed further details about the sequence of events or the identities of the individuals found inside the home.

On October 10, 2021, at approximately 9 a.m., Indiana State Police responded to a reported domestic disturbance at a residence on East County Road 900 North in Sunman, Indiana. The disturbance involved Joshua "Josh" Edward Ebinger, 37, who was reportedly violating a protection order issued against him by a woman.
Two Ripley County deputies, an Indiana State Police trooper, and a Versailles Police officer arrived at the scene. The woman exited the residence and was moved to a safe location.

On September 24, 2021, at approximately 1:30 p.m., Indianapolis Metropolitan Police attempted to stop a white Honda Pilot driven by a 36-year-old white woman, later identified as Jessie Leonard. The vehicle fled the traffic stop, and officers did not pursue.

About an hour later, officers located a vehicle matching the description in the 500 block of Eugene Street. While preparing to tow the vehicle, police saw Leonard on a nearby porch with a gun. Police alleged she reached for the gun. Four officers opened fire, shooting and killing her.

On September 8, 2021, at approximately 7:24 p.m., Fayette County dispatch received a 911 call from a woman reporting a domestic dispute with her estranged husband, Kevin Fehl. Officers, familiar with Fehl due to prior interactions and aware of his propensity to carry weapons, were stationed in the area.

At approximately 8:24 p.m., officers spotted Fehl driving by their patrol cars. Police briefly chased him, and at 8:31 p.m., his vehicle hit spike strips that had been placed for him and stopped near County Road 710 West and West Johnson School Road in Orange Township. As officers approached, Fehl died by suicide under police duress.

On August 27, 2021, at approximately 10:22 a.m., Elkhart Police responded to a reported shooting involving injuries. During a verbal dispute between a man and a woman, the man fired a handgun, fatally shooting a 1-year-old child. A description of the man and the vehicle he fled in was broadcast to officers. Minutes later, officers located the vehicle and identified the man, 19-year-old Lonnel Cephas, walking in an alley near West Wolf Avenue and 7th Street. Officers at.tempted to arrest him. Sergeant Mike Davis shot and killed Cephas.
Total fatalities and injuries: Two fatalities (the 1-year-old child and Lonnel Cephas).

On August 18, 2021, a deputy with the Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a person in a ditch near 150 East and 430 South in Lafayette, Indiana. While investigating, the deputy heard a motorcycle revving repeatedly. Moments later, the deputy observed a motorcyclist riding with the front wheel elevated off the ground.
After the motorcycle returned to both wheels, the deputy used radar to clock the motorcyclist traveling at 85 mph. The deputy attempted to stop the motorcyclist, initiating a pursuit. The motorcycle crested a hill and crashed. Kyle Wade Plunkett, 35, was killed in the pursuit crash.

On August 9, 2021, at approximately 9 p.m., Indianapolis Metropolitan Police responded to a call from inside an apartment in the 7500 block of Bayview Club Drive.
While an officer was checking the perimeter, Donald Williams fired at officers, striking one in the leg. Officers then entered the residence and discovered three additional people with gunshot wounds: an 11-year-old girl, a 41-year-old woman, and another individual whose condition was not specified. The 11-year-old girl and 41-year-old woman were transported to the hospital in critical condition.

Donald Williams was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Deputies from the White County Sheriff's Office pursued a vehicle until it crashed into a tree at high speed near the intersection of W Third Street and S Ripley Street in Brookston, Indiana. The driver, a 23-year-old man from Springfield, Illinois, attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended by deputies. Inside the vehicle, deputies found multiple occupants, including Jaliyah Z. Johnson, a 21-year-old man, an infant named Jeremiah Brown, a juvenile, and a toddler. Johnson and Brown were pronounced dead at the scene.

On August 8, 2021, around 11:00 p.m., White County Sheriff's deputies pursued a black 2013 BMW X3 driven by Joshua Brown, 23, from Springfield, Illinois, westbound on State Road 18 into Brookston. The vehicle passed State Road 43 onto Third Street at a high rate of speed, ran off the road, hit a tree, and came to rest against an abandoned house on Ripley Street.

The driver, Joshua Brown, attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended by deputies. Inside the vehicle, deputies found three adults, one juvenile, one toddler, and one infant. Despite lifesaving efforts, 21-year-old Jaliyah Johnson and 4-month-old Jeremiah Brown were pronounced deceased at the scene by the White County Coroner.
Another passenger, Eric Stokes, was transported to a Monticello area hospital. The juvenile passenger was transported by helicopter to a South Bend area hospital, and the toddler was transported by helicopter to an Indianapolis area hospital.

Further investigation revealed that Joshua Brown was under the influence of a controlled substance. He was transported to a Lafayette area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and later taken to the White County Jail. Brown faces multiple charges, including neglect of a dependent resulting in death, resisting law enforcement with a vehicle causing death, reckless driving causing death, operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death, and resisting law enforcement.

Parke County Sheriff's deputies responded to a domestic disturbance call involving a father and son just after 11 p.m. on August 5, 2021. Upon arrival, Chad Matthew Fiscus began firing at deputies with a rifle. Deputy Darian A. Lewellen returned fire, shooting and killing Fiscus.

On 08/03/2021 at about 4 a.m. the Lawrence Police Department initiated a pursuit of a vehicle driven by 14-year-old Nazire Parks that contained several teenagers. The chase continued into Boone County and ended when the car lost control and struck a tree at the intersection of Boone County Road 650 E and State Road 32. Nazire Parks, the driver, was killed in the crash.

The driver lost control on State Road 32 near County Road 650 East and crashed into a tree. The 14-year-old driver died at the scene. Four additional juveniles in the vehicle were injured.
