At approximately 7:40 a.m. Friday, a trooper observed an eastbound Jeep Wrangler driving on the shoulder near mile marker 354 on Interstate 80. The trooper attempted a traffic stop, but the driver continued and the trooper escalated a chase to 100 mph. The vehicle exited and then entered a field and continued fleeing southbound. When the vehicle drove through a fence and continued into a pasture and York County and Seward County deputies then picked up the chase until the driver's vehicle hit a bridge guardrail and crashed, ejecting both occupants, killing Melissa Hernandez.

On 10/30/2022, Omaha Police Department officers responded to a 911 call reporting shots fired in the area of South 30th Street and Marcy Street. Officers located Jeramyah Wilson seated in an SUV and observed him holding a firearm. Officers took positions of cover and repeatedly commanded Wilson to drop the weapon. Wilson made threatening statements and at one point made a movement with the firearm toward an officer. Two officers then discharged their weapons, striking Wilson. He was transported to a hospital where he later died from his gunshot wounds.

On 09/03/2022, Omaha Police Department officers responded to a home near 78th Street and Mary Street at about 7:30 a.m. regarding a man threatening to shoot himself. Officers located 25-year-old Daniel A. Davis in the front yard of the residence holding a pistol. Officers spoke with Davis for approximately four minutes, asking him to drop the weapon and offering help. Davis then shot himself. Officers began first aid before Davis was transported to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. No officers fired their weapons during the incident. Nebraska State Patrol assisted the investigation.

On 05/03/2022, Bellevue Police Department officers responded to a reported disturbance near Sunbury Drive and Victoria Avenue. Officers encountered Matthew Slowik during the response. Cass County deputies were sent to an assault call in which a son, Andrew Stratton, had struck his father in the head. The father called 911. He told deputies that his son was armed and in the basement. Police entered and fired a shot and killed him. Stratton was the brother of Josh Stratton, reported missing in 2018.

Two people and a police K9 were killed as a result of a police chase crash in York. A deputy reportedly attempted to traffic-stop a 2008 silver Ford F-150 seen to be driving erratically in York County. The vehicle did not immediately stop and police escalated a chase in excess of 100 miles per hour and continued to Road H and Road 18 where the vehicle stopped. Police allege that the man concealed his hands and advised officers that he wanted to die. Police claim that he advanced toward the officers and took over the marked patrol canine unit.
The man gained control of the police cruiser and another chase began.
The patrol vehicle stopped on the railroad tracks. The man then exited the vehicle and stood outside the vehicle as a train approached.
Officers tried to intervene and regain control of the patrol vehicle and retrieve the canine. The man got back into the patrol vehicle and a train blocked officers on the south which the man used to turn around and approach the train at fast speeds. The man struck a bystander vehicle at the crossing. Edinger and the K9 were killed in the crash

On 01/24/2022, Gage County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a call at 811 Elm Street in Adams. Deputies located 37-year-old Thomas Sharp and attempted to take him into custody. Deputies fired their weapons during the arrest attempt, striking and killing Sharp at the residence. The Nebraska State Patrol conducted the investigation into the deputies’ use of deadly force.

On December 15, 2021, around 10:30 a.m., deputies from the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department were called to investigate an unknown vehicle in the 700 block of South Walnut Street, North Platte. They found Keith Alan Hinrichsen, 52, inside the vehicle. When deputies approached, Hinrichsen allegedly got out of the car and moved towards them. Police shot and killed him. He was declared dead at the scene. It is unknown whether he was armed or represented a threat and why he was shot. The Nebraska State Patrol is investigating the event.

On November 24, 2021, while following up on a tip, Nebraska State Patrol officers spotted a vehicle with German "Pee-Wee" Pedrazo and a woman inside. When police confronted Pedrazo, he allegedly reached for a gun. A trooper shot and killed him. No BWC was provided. Pedrazo died 4 days later from injuries.

On 10/21/2021, Sierra J. Stricker was killed on US-77 near I Avenue when a Thurston County Sheriff’s Office deputy driving an unmarked patrol vehicle struck her while traveling south on the highway. Stricker died from injuries sustained in the collision. The case was reviewed by a grand jury, which returned a no bill, and no criminal charges were filed against the deputy.

On September 9, 2021, at approximately 1:33 p.m., a 911 call was made to report a disturbance at West Lanes Bowling Center involving Eric Liao, an autistic adult man, who was reportedly out of control and biting his caregiver. Bowling alley staff were restraining him when an officer from the Omaha Police Department arrived at 1:46 p.m. The officer found Liao being held down and proceeded to handcuff him. Shortly thereafter, it was observed that Liao was unresponsive, and he was pronounced dead a short time later.

On 08/16/2021, law enforcement surrounded an apartment in Kearney after identifying Jeffrey Duane Smith as the person sought in connection with shootings of two women earlier that day in Elm Creek. Officers conducted negotiations and deployed armored vehicles and a tactical robot while attempting to take him into custody. During the standoff an officer heard a gunshot from inside. Entry was later made using a robot and Smith was located deceased from a self inflicted gunshot wound. The death occurred while officers maintained a containment operation following hours of police escalation at the residence.

On 08/11/2021, law enforcement responded to a domestic disturbance involving Brooks Hacker and his girlfriend at a residence in Juniata, Nebraska. On 06/29/2021, Morrill County sheriff’s deputies went to a residence on Second Avenue in Bayard to serve a warrant on Larry Hunt. During the warrant service, deputies encountered Hunt at the home. Two deputies opened fire and shot Hunt, killing him at the scene. Hunt was 58 years old. Authorities released few details about the encounter, including whether Hunt was armed, what commands were given, or the sequence of events leading to deputies opening fire. On 06/07/2021, Scottsbluff police officers responded to a residence on West Overland after receiving reports that Daniel Ojeda may be armed and had made threats to himself or others. While officers were responding, shots were reported from inside the home. Police established a perimeter and negotiated with Ojeda for several hours. Officers later entered the residence. During the entry, officers opened fire and shot Ojeda. He died from his injuries. The shooting was reviewed by a grand jury, which cleared the officers involved. No officers were charged.
